A Battle of The Bands Points To the Future

A great way to move in to a new year of live music is to check out a Battle Of The Bands, where emerging talent will vie for the spotlight.  Tonight at the Legion in Collingwood the Quarter Century Theatre Company is bringing us a glimpse of the future with five new musical acts live on stage.

Quarter Century Theatre is the creation of Artistic Director Rochelle Reynolds, committed to bringing bold, edgy and relevant new work to the people of Collingwood and its surrounding areas.  With partners Graham Ashton and Khaleel Gandhi, QCT offers a unique, immersive theatre experience geared towards young and first-time theatre goers who will ideally learn as much about their community and its best kept secrets as the plays and playwrights to whom they are being introduced. Their year-end fundraiser, a Battle Of The Bands, is a perfect fit for their community mandate.

The Bands

The Leynes Brothers, Carter and Jude, are young boys who can lay down a solid groove with guitar and drums, and compose their own tunes as well. Bad Habit from Wasaga Beach plays hard rock riffs.  Singer-songwriter Stephanie Short performing as Aphiene, offers a mix of R & B, soul and pop.

The Stolen Arcs have a live album on Bandcamp

The Stolen Arcs recorded an album at a live show at The Rockpile West earlier this year.  They’re Connor, Seb, Brett and Josh, an indie alternative band from Collingwood.

The Telstars are crowd pleasers

Headlining the show will be the Telstars RocknRoll Band, a bunch of grownups playing songs from the 50’s and 60’s to teach the kids a thing or two.

Tonight’s the big night. It will be a vibrant evening with a wide variety of music and that’s not all. They promise snacks, games, and prizes.  If you bring a donation for the food bank you might win the door prize, a brand new Acer Iconia tablet.

The Quarter Century Theatre

This community event provides an introduction not only to young musicians but to the Quarter Century Theatre an ambitious new addition to local culture.  Their first major production, David French’s Salt Water Moon runs Jan. 25th to 27th at The Creative Space in Collingwood.

On her Facebook page, Rochelle Reynolds has provided a series of engaging video clips from the bands competing in this inaugural Battle Of The Bands, worth taking a few minutes to check out.

Tonight’s show starts at 6:30 pm at the Collingwood Legion Tickets at the door are $15 general admission and $12  for students and senior.  Bring a can of food for a chance to win a tablet.
