Bluegrass Gospel This Sunday at Knox Church

This Sunday at Knox Presbyterian Church in Meaford, there will be a hot Bluegrass Gospel band performing as a fundraiser for the Big Head River Food Grains Project.  It’s Rescue Junction from Millbank, Ontario.  Built around brother and sister, Kyle & Kaitlyn Gerber on mandolin and guitar respectively, who have been performing together since 2009, the band includes Roger Martin on banjo, Dallas Roth on upright bass and Nick Huber on dobro.

They combine bluegrass with gospel quartet numbers that range from traditional to originals written by Kaitlyn.  The band has won accolades from the Central Canada Bluegrass Music Awards that include, in addition to several nominations, Most Promising Group in2013 and Gospel Group in 2014.  While they appreciate the awards, their mission is to glorify God and share the love of Christ through their music.  Having said that, their music is non-denominational and includes secular numbers.

The Bighead River Food Grains Project is a Christian-based charitable organization in partnership with 15 Canadian churches and church-based agencies that facilitates the collection and distribution of cash, grain and other agricultural commodities in an effort to end world hunger. foodgrains-bank It also provides funds and expert advice for projects submitted by member agencies and their partners, manages the procurement and supply of food commodities, and engages in public policy and education activities related to hunger.  Here in Meaford local events have included concerts, church dinners, a tea room at the Fall Fair, and refreshment booths at Meaford’s Scarecrow Invasion and Christmas Window Unveiling.  In addition, local farmers and agribusinesses have grown and harvested various crops with the proceeds from the sale of the crops going to the work of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.

Although donations will be accepted, general admission is free.  This is a chance to hear some great music and contribute to a worthy cause at the same time.

The concert is Sun, Oct 16 @ 2:00 pm at the Knox Presbyterian Church on St. Vincent.
