The Downchild Blues Band back in the day

Founded in Toronto in 1969, the Downchild Blues Band is still going strong, with Donnie Walsh still the mainstay of the band, which includes singer Chuck Jackson, tenor sax player Pat Carey, drummer Mike Fitzpatrick, bassist Gary Kendall, and pianist/organist Michael Fonfara .  Originally the house band at Grossman’s Tavern in Toronto, they recorded their first album in a makeshift studio in Rochdale College.

As recently at 2014, they won a Juno for “Blues Album of The Year” for “Can You Hear The Music, their 17th album.  They are acknowledged as the band that inspired The Blues Brothers.
