Good Food and Derek McLean

The Leeky Canoe is famous for its burgers and its half-price wings after nine o’clock.  It seems a perfect fit, then, that this Saturday, Sept. 24th, the featured performer will be someone who also seems to have food on the mind.  This is judging by the bands he is and has been part of: Lemon Pepper Pickerel and Strange Potatos.  But maybe that’s just coincidence.

Derek McLean

Derek McLean – hold the potatoes – at The Leeky on Saturday

What does stand out about Derek McLean, when you browse the information available on the Internet, are three main ingredients: a sense of humour, an amazing voice, and a million songs.

Originally from Bolton, Derek has been playing guitar since the age of fourteen. As he developed his repertoire he became known in the Ottawa area as an acoustic solo performer with a wealth of Alternative Rock, Folk and top 40 songs that he brought to life with his wide ranging vocal skills and solid guitar work.  He developed a repertoire of Celtic tunes when he was in a Toronto based band called “The Picket Line” and after relocating to Wasaga Beach he joined up with John Eaton and John Miller to form “Strange Potatos” a band that is as well known for their boisterous humour as for their excellent musicianship and vast repertoire.

Lately Derek has been making his presence felt here in Meaford so you may already have caught him at Ted’s jam.  Clearly a performer who knows how to bring fun to a performance, Derek’s show on Saturday night at The Leeky is bound to be a good time.
