Jazz At The Library Caps Season With Mary-Catherine Pazzano

The Jazz At The Library series in Thornbury caps this seasons offerings with the return of popular jazz singer Mary-Catherine Pazzano this Friday. This special concert at The Marsh Street Centre celebrates the release of her debut studio album “You’re Gonna Hear From Me”. She’ll be backed by Don Buchanan on piano, Jason Hunter on saxophones, Pat Collins on bass and Steve James on drums.
Based in Kitchener-Waterloo, Mary-Catherine holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Voice Performance from the University of Waterloo. Having gone on to complete a degree in education, she operates a voice studio in Waterloo where she teaches lessons to children and adults. With bass player Mike Grace she has created a series of weekly jazz education workshops in high schools for students in Grades 9 to 12.
While her first love is jazz standards, she has lent her talents to a number of vocal ensembles, including the DaCapo Chamber Choir, the Spiritus Ensemble, and the Bell’Arte Singers. In 2010, she was a soloist with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony for Schubert’s Mass in G.
Local jazz fans will remember her concert at the L. E. Shore Library this past spring where she celebrated the hundredth birthday of Ella Fitzgerald with stories and songs, accompanied by the Don Buchanan quartet. It was a performance that brought two standing ovations from the sellout crowd.
Organizer Tony Bauer was quoted in the Meaford Express as saying, “Those five musical minds communicated with each other perfectly and created music of a calibre and artistry seldom heard. A remarkable evening of admirable music.”
It’s likely to be another sellout crowd this Friday at The Marsh Street Centre.
