Larry Jensen Comes To Meaford

Larry Jensen

Next Thursday, Sept. 15th, Pete Devlin will bring a special friend to his show at The Leeky CanoeLarry Jensen is a very highly respected singer-songwriter based in Owen Sound who has been playing for more than four decades, amassing fans and admirers all along the way.  He has released 14 CDs and a book of his song-lyrics and poems called “Some Are Songs: A Book of Words”.

An indication of the esteem in which he is held locally came in 2009 when he was awarded the first ever musician of the year award as part of the Owen Sound Cultural Awards.  In 2010 the local musical community paid tribute to him with “Demons and Saints” a CD in which more than 50 singers and musicians contributed their talents to cover 19 of his original songs.

Last fall, in an unprecedented move, he was appointed as Owen Sound’s Poet Laureate jointly with Rob Rolfe.  They were appointed together because they have been collaborating for several years after meeting and realizing that they share an interest in writing about working class stories in Owen Sound and Grey Bruce.  While they both write, when they perform together Larry plays guitar while Rob speaks the lyrics. Larry also plays with a band of stellar musicians when circumstances allow and has been a mainstay of Summerfolk for twenty years.

One of the stellar musicians with whom he has collaborated is Pete Devlin and that’s how he’s come to share Pete’s show at The Leeky next Thursday.  It will be a treat for fans of good original songwriting.
